Have you noticed that organic exposure on Facebook is pretty much dead? There are so many business pages fighting for exposure that there is very little chance that posts from your page will even feature on anyone’s newsfeed.
So instead of just plodding along sending out FB posts for your business that aren’t even featuring in anyone’s feed, let’s change how we do things.
Whenever a member of a group posts anything in a group, every member gets a notification. Which means more organic exposure than a normal FB post which relies on FB’s ‘Newsfeed’ algorithm (purely designed to fleece you of your pounds).
In fact, not only do group members receive a notification on their FB page but it also flags up on their mobile. So we’re comparing a post that doesn’t even make it onto a newsfeed to a post which pops up onto people’s mobiles (as long as they are in the group) and in their notifications.
So, how do you get people to join your group. Well, you need to use your digital wizardry and that is where we come in.
Oh and THE MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALL is that you must do what you say you are going to do. POST VALUABLE CONTENT so that people want to stay in the group (Sorry for shouting)
1] CREATE A FACEBOOK GROUP
The one annoyance that people never mention is that Facebook won’t allow you to create a Group from your Business Page. Why not Facebook? It’s just another thing that annoys the hell out of me about FB but don’t get me started.
So, from your business page (or your personal page for that matter, since it will always be attributed to your personal page anyway), go to the top right hand corner and click the drop down button next to the padlock. Click ‘Create Group’. Then click ‘Connect and Share’, give it a name and then add a couple of members for it to be activated. Add your mum or a close friend. NEVER add anyone to a group without their permission (apart from your mum or that close friend!)
2] NAME YOUR FACEBOOK GROUP
Don’t call it your name with ‘Group’ at the end. No offence, but nobody will be itching to join it. Call it something that will attract like-minded group members. If you sell cupcakes for a living ‘Cupcake Design Tips’ ‘Cupcake Recipes’. If you’re a Web Developer, call it ‘Website Building Questions Answered’. You get my drift.
So now you have a Facebook Group. When you go to bed tonight, you’ll wake up in the morning and it will packed to the rafters right?! No. You need to promote the hell out of it. More on that later.
3] CHOOSE THE PERFECT FACEBOOK GROUP COVER PHOTO
When people find your Facebook Group page, (because you have promoted the hell out of it), you want them to join. Choose a nice picture, add some copy telling them exactly what they will benefit from by joining your group.
My new absolute best friend is Canva. It is the easiest way to create any social media collateral. Simply choose what you want to design and Canva will provide you with the perfect dimensional layout. Add your copy, even change the image, hit download and then add it to your Facebook Group Cover to make it look smart and entice people to join.
4] WRITE A KILLER FACEBOOK AD TO PROMOTE YOUR FACEBOOK GROUP
Go back to your business page and write an FB Post as normal, asking people to join your group.
If you are a cupcake maker try ‘Want to receive daily tips on how to decorate the most beautiful cupcakes?’ Join our group and receive some expert cupcake baking advice.
If you are an accountant ‘Do you have any burning questions on how to file your tax returns?’ Join our group for some free advice.
Then simply boost your post, targeting the exact types of people that you feel would benefit from this post. Facebook gives you many options so get creative and open up your thinking.
5] REFRESH THE FACEBOOK LINK ON YOUR WEBSITE TO LINK TO YOUR FACEBOOK GROUP PAGE RATHER THAN THE BUSINESS PAGE
The essence of Digital Marketing is linking, adding valuable content and making sure it ALL links together somehow in order to increase engagement, and rank in the search engines.
Don’t just pop your social media icon in to a small area of your website. Give it a feature. ‘Join some of the best cupcake makers in the country and receive their free tips’
6] SPEND TIME EVERY DAY ON THE GROUP
Digital Marketing is hard work. Well, it’s not hard as in difficult, there is just ALWAYS so much to do. You can go on and on doing bits here and there. You must FOCUS. Make your social media focus be your facebook group for a good few months. Post daily. Be the leader of the group. Use it for Polls. Ask people what they want to know. Help them. Give them the best cupcake ideas every single day.
Then, promote the valuable content in boosted paid posts (it’s cheap, you can start at £17). Check it every day. Become obsessed with making it the biggest group online.
7] ADD A LINK TO YOUR EMAIL SIGNATURE
Simple, but effective. Use any means you can to advertise your group. Hustle.
8] USE THE FILE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE FACEBOOK GROUP
I love this feature. Put together a document that people will want to download. Do some research and think of something that they can’t find easily online. Research is key for any digital marketing strategy. Put all the time into research and find the little nugget that people will want to download.
Add that little nugget document in a post but click the MORE.. button before you write the post and then click, ADD FILE.
Then you will eventually have a file full of little nuggets. Write posts about them on your blog or for any guest post opportunities that you can find and link people to the file section of your Facebook Group to download them. They must join the group in order to be able to download.
9] PROMOTE ON INSTAGRAM
.. and Twitter .. and Google Plus etc. Your group gives you something to talk about. In all posts, link back to the group. Or to the FILES section for them to download a file.
10] FIND A GUEST POST OPPORTUNITY
Guest post opportunities are out there. Bloggers want other bloggers to write for them. Find a blog within your industry that offers guest post opportunities.
I have been writing guest posts for years for many different types of clients and industries. Would you like to know my trick for finding guest post opportunities? Type into google the industry, for instance ‘finance’ followed by ‘submit a guest post’
Easy. So, your search will look like this
Finance ‘submit a guest post’
Then reap up the rewards. A long list of all sites offering guest post opportunities about the finance industry. Once you start getting the lingo used, then add that terminology to your search instead.
Once you have found a guest post opportunity, write a blog and include a link either to your site (which will have a big call to action ‘join the best group in the world’ button) or a file in your Facebook Group.
I can’t let you read this without giving you 2 very strong DON’Ts.
1) DO NOT ADD PEOPLE TO YOUR GROUP WITHOUT ASKING THEM FIRST
2) DO NOT INCLUDE ANY LINKS TO YOUR WEBSITE WHATSOEVER. YOU NEED TO BUILD TRUST AND GIVE VALUE. ONCE YOU HAVE DONE THIS, THEN YOU CAN PEPPER IN A COUPLE HERE AND THERE BUT NOT BEFORE.
Please do follow these steps and tell me about your results in the comments below. Good luck lovelies!
